New York City police officers shot Victor Soto, 49, on Monday afternoon following an armed confrontation in the Bronx, the New York Post reported. The incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. near Bainbridge Avenue and East 194th Street near a local daycare, according to New York Police Department Assistant Chief Aneudy Castillo. [1]
The New York Post reported that Soto entered the Sammy Gourmet Deli, racked his handgun, and pointed the weapon at customers inside. Patrons were forced to take cover before the suspect exited the building and began walking northbound down the street, according to police officials. [1]
Officers attempted to stop Soto, but he refused to drop his weapon, pointed it at the responding police officers, and engaged in a gunfight. Police then shot Soto at the scene, the New York Post reported. [1]
The location in the Bronx has seen prior shootings in recent weeks. As FTMQ News reported earlier, federal agents shot and injured a man in the Bronx in October, and a separate incident that month involved a gunman shooting two people before barricading himself inside a Bronx apartment building.
