Security guards shoot armed man dead at Nashville federal courthouse

Security personnel shot and killed an armed man inside the federal courthouse in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday morning. The Metro Nashville Police Department and local news reports confirmed that the individual was killed after attempting to launch an attack inside the facility. According to UPI, Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson Don Aaron stated that a man about 40 years old entered the lobby of the Fred D. Thompson U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building around 9:30 a.m. local time. The spokesperson said the suspect was from outside Tennessee. [1]

When the man pulled out a gun and it failed to fire, he drew a knife, UPI reported. Courthouse security then shot the suspect. Aaron stated that the man was pronounced dead later at a nearby hospital. [1]

Authorities searched the gunman's vehicle near the courthouse after the shooting, but police spokesperson Don Aaron told reporters that nothing threatening was found inside it. Fox News reported that the United States Marshals Service declined to comment on the incident. [1][2]
