A New Hampshire man has pleaded guilty to killing his father inside a home more than two decades ago. Douglas Herlihy, who is now 40 years old, admitted to the 2003 killing, according to Fox News, which cited the New Hampshire Department of Justice. [1]
The victim, 50-year-old Paul Herlihy, was found dead on August 27, 2003, during a welfare check requested by a relative. Police officers discovered the body after entering his home in Milford, New Hampshire, Fox News reported. [1]
The father and son had a turbulent relationship that included prior violence and involvement from law enforcement before the father died. Douglas Herlihy was 17 years old at the time of the killing, according to Fox News. [1]
Investigators solved the case after finding a message written on a closet door and following up on a boast Douglas Herlihy made to police officers in 2020 regarding his first body. He now faces up to 24 years in prison, Fox News reported. [1]
