Polygon reported that the fifth and final season of the Netflix fantasy drama series The Witcher has been quietly delayed until 2027. The news was originally reported by What's On Netflix. Viewers previously expected the final season to premiere in 2026 based on marketing materials provided by Netflix as well as the shooting schedule of the show. Since 2019, Netflix has adapted the franchise into both live-action and animated series. [1]

According to Polygon, viewer reception reached a low point around season 4 when actor Henry Cavill stepped down from playing the lead character, Geralt of Rivia. Actor Liam Hemsworth subsequently stepped into the role. Viewers held hope that the fifth and final season could turn the series around or bring a conclusion to the live-action story of Geralt. [1]

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich created the television series for Netflix, drawing material from the book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The show is set on a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass named the Continent. It explores the story of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri, starring Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan alongside Cavill and Hemsworth. [5]
