Netflix has renewed the political thriller series The Diplomat for a fifth season, UPI and Variety reported on Thursday. The decision comes shortly after the show released its fourth season earlier this month. [1][2][5][6][7][8]

The series was created by Debora Cahn, a former writer and producer for The West Wing, Grey's Anatomy and Homeland. Variety reported that Netflix has not released any plot details regarding the upcoming fifth season. [1][2][10]

Keri Russell stars in the show as Kate Wyler, a United States ambassador to the United Kingdom who manages political crises alongside a struggling marriage to her husband, portrayed by Rufus Sewell. Russell won a Golden Globe Award in 1999 for her role in Felicity and has received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her work in The Americans and The Diplomat. [1][9][10]

Variety reported on Wednesday that The Diplomat is also scheduled to participate in Netflix's fourth annual FYSee: The Fall Edit awards showcase. The showcase will take place at the Tudum Theater in Hollywood during the first two weekends of November. [4]
