Nebraska fires offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen following fourth consecutive loss

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule removed Dana Holgorsen from his role as offensive coordinator following the team's 24-13 loss to Illinois on Friday, Fox News and CBS Sports reported. CBS Sports reported that Nebraska made the decision official on Saturday. Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas will assume play-calling duties for the Cornhuskers, according to Fox News. [1][2]

The dismissal came after Nebraska lost four straight games, bringing their record to 5-4 on the season after a 5-0 start, CBS Sports reported. CBS Sports noted that the offense averaged 13.5 points per game during the losing streak, while Fox News reported the team scored 54 total points across those four losses. Fox News also reported that Rhule made the decision just five days after describing Holgorsen as one of the best offensive minds of our generation. [1][2]

Rhule released a statement saying that like so many of you, he is angry, disappointed, and frustrated with the results, CBS Sports reported. He added that as head coach, he is ultimately responsible for every aspect of the program. [2]

Rhule is currently the head football coach for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a position he has held since 2023. He previously served as head coach at Temple University, Baylor University, and for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League. [8]
