The head of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Mark Rowley, has stated that he would not be surprised if many more alleged victims come forward following the conviction of former comedian turned online influencer Russell Brand. Speaking to the BBC and as reported by the Guardian, Sir Mark urged any potential victims to contact officers. The Guardian reported that Brand, aged 51, was convicted on Thursday of rape and sexual assault. [1][2][4]

BBC News, the Daily Mail, and the Guardian all reported that detectives are already investigating two further rape allegations involving Brand. BBC News noted that Brand has already been interviewed under caution regarding these allegations. The Guardian added that the lead detective in the case stated that their work is not done, while also noting that Brand faces a civil claim in the United Kingdom. [1][2][6]

BBC News and the Daily Mail reported that Sir Mark praised the bravery of the women who came forward to give evidence. In his interview with the BBC, Sir Mark stated that while the case may look different because of celebrity, the majority of sexual offending is about people abusing power. Sir Mark also criticized arguments put forward by Brand's defence team during the trial, stating that what he heard reported came close to victim blaming. [1][2]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Brand faced trial at Southwark Crown Court involving multiple counts of rape and sexual assault. The Metropolitan Police, commonly known as Scotland Yard or the Met, is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement across Greater London. [12][15][16]
