All-Ireland champions Mayo secured six places on the 2026 Gaelic football All-Star selection, Irish Examiner, BBC Sport, thejournal.ie, and RT E reported. The team features players from eight different counties, which Irish Examiner and RT E said is the most extensive county spread on the team since 2010. A total of 11 players earned their first All-Star award. [1][2][3][4]

Mayo's selections include defenders Sam Callinan and Enda Hession, midfielder Jack Carney, and forwards Ryan O'Donoghue, Darragh Beirne, and Kobe McDonald, according to BBC Sport and thejournal.ie. Irish Examiner reported that 18-year-old McDonald became the youngest winner of an All-Star award in the history of the game, taking the record previously held by Derry player Dermot McNicholl from 1984. [1][2][3]

Runners-up Kerry received three selections on the team, thejournal.ie and Irish Examiner reported. RT E added that Kerry forward David Clifford received his seventh All-Star award, which equals the total won by former Kerry player Mikey Sheehy. Single All-Star awards went to players from Westmeath, Louth, Armagh, Tyrone, Dublin, and Monaghan, according to thejournal.ie. [1][3][4]

BBC Sport noted that Mayo ended a 75-year wait for All-Ireland victory this season. Carney and O'Donoghue have also been nominated for Footballer of the Year, while McDonald and Beirne have been nominated for Young Footballer of the Year. [2]
