The eight-episode horror series Crystal Lake premiered on October 15 on Peacock, according to UPI. UPI and the New York Post both report that the series is set in rural 1970s New Jersey and serves as a prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise. [1][4]
UPI reported that Emmy-winning actress Linda Cardellini was eager to take the role of mass murderer Pamela Voorhees because she is rarely hired for such characters. The New York Post added that the story follows Pamela on a killing spree at a summer camp after her son Jason allegedly drowns in a lake. [1][4]
The series is produced by A24 and developed by Brad Caleb Kane, featuring Callum Vinson as a young Jason Voorhees alongside Cardellini. Cardellini previously starred in the television series Freaks and Geeks, ER, and Dead to Me. [11][12]
The New York Post reported that the prequel expands the original film backstory by revealing that a shadowy entity conducted experiments on Jason Voorhees after his birth, explaining how the villain became virtually indestructible. [4]
