The Penguin showrunner and executive producer Lauren LeFranc is in talks to bring the DC Comics villain Poison Ivy to HBO. Variety, Deadline, Polygon, and UPI all reported that LeFranc is in discussions to produce the new live-action television series. [1][2][3][5]
The project will be separate from the Batman universe established by filmmaker Matt Reeves and actor Robert Pattinson. Polygon and UPI both reported that unlike The Penguin, which spun off directly from the film The Batman, the Poison Ivy show will not be connected to that continuity. [1][2]
The move follows the critical success of The Penguin, which premiered on HBO in 2024 after actor Colin Farrell first played the character in the 2022 movie The Batman. Variety reported that The Penguin marked the first live-action television spinoff from that movie franchise. [3]
The character of Poison Ivy has appeared in several screen adaptations over the years. UPI reported that Uma Thurman portrayed the villain in the 1997 movie Batman and Robin, while actors Clare Foley, Maggie Geha, Peyton List, Bridget Regan, and Nicole Kang played versions of her in television series.
