Kingswood won the six million dollar Caulfield Cup on Saturday in Australia, the Daily Mail reported. The victory came during the 150th edition of the world's richest 2,400 metre turf handicap race. The horse was trained by Gavin Bedggood and ridden by jockey John Allen. [1]
Kingswood finished ahead of runner up Saint George, while Enfjaar came third and pre race favourite Cosmic Crusader placed fourth, according to the Daily Mail. However, the event was marred by a serious fall near the end of the race. [1]
The Daily Mail and ABC News Australia both report that New Zealand mare Ohope Wins was euthanased by a Racing Victoria track veterinarian following a fall near the finish line. ABC News Australia reported that Half Yours appeared to suffer superficial lacerations. [1][2][3]
