The Conservative Party has overtaken Reform UK as the primary challenger to the Labour government, according to new polling reported by the Daily Mail and the Telegraph. An Ipsos survey found that the Conservatives now lead Nigel Farage's party by three points, securing 35 per cent to Reform UK's 32 per cent. [1][2]
The Daily Mail reported that a pollster described the shift as tectonic plates moving on the right side of British politics. The new figures show the Conservatives reversing a 28-point lead held by Reform UK in May. The shift follows recent policy announcements from Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, including proposals to scrap inheritance tax. [1]
The latest results build on earlier polling trends following the Conservative Party conference. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a YouGov survey showed the Conservatives rising to 23 per cent support to move ahead of Reform UK on 21 per cent, while an Opinium poll also recorded a three-point gain for the party after Badenoch promised tax cuts. [7][8]
Kemi Badenoch has served as the Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition since 2024. The latest Ipsos poll marks the first time in the current Parliament that the Conservatives have placed ahead of Reform UK in this survey. [1][7][8]
