Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch revealed over the weekend that she witnessed at least two people being lynched while living in Nigeria as a child. The Daily Mail and The Times reported that she shared the experiences while speaking at the Cliveden Literary Festival. [1][4]
According to the Daily Mail, Badenoch said she saw one victim committing a crime before being beaten to death by a crowd, and described another victim as just being killed. She stated that these formative experiences taught her the importance of standing up to online cancel culture. [1]
Badenoch has served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2024. She previously held senior Cabinet posts under former prime ministers Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak between 2022 and 2024, and has served as a Member of Parliament since 2017. [5]
The disclosures come as Badenoch warned the Conservative Party to prepare for a potential general election before Christmas, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [2][10]
