The Conservative Party has gained three percentage points in the latest research by Opinium, according to the Daily Mail. The poll rise follows a promise by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch to slash inheritance tax. The Daily Mail reported that the poll results show an early sign that her pledge went down well with voters. [1]
The Daily Mail reported that a third of the public viewed the speech by Mrs Badenoch positively, compared to 14 per cent who disliked it. However, 54 per cent of respondents did not express a clear view. The report added that the Labour Party maintained a significant lead overall. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Badenoch previously pledged at her party autumn conference to scrap inheritance tax on family homes if elected prime minister. She stated that couples would be able to pass on up to 1,000,000 pounds tax-free. FTMQ News also reported that Badenoch instructed the Conservative Party to prepare for a potential snap general election. [8][9]
Badenoch has served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2024. She held several Cabinet positions under prime ministers Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak between 2022 and 2024, including Secretary of State for Business and Trade. She has been the Member of Parliament for North West Essex since 2017. [3][6]
