British number one Katie Boulter lost to Russian Diana Shnaider in the first round of the Wuhan Open, BBC News reported. World number 13 Shnaider defeated Boulter 6-3 6-1 in a match that lasted one hour and 30 minutes. The loss came after Boulter dropped her serve four times during the second set. [1]
According to BBC News, the defeat came during a challenging period for Boulter, whose grandfather Brian died last week. The loss also extends a difficult run for the British player, who is currently ranked 54th in the world. [1]
BBC News noted that Boulter has managed only two match victories across the four Grand Slam tournaments this season. Since her first round elimination at Wimbledon in June, she has won just three out of nine singles matches on the WTA Tour. [1]
Boulter has won four singles titles on the WTA Tour and reached a career-high singles ranking of world number 23 in November 2024. Shnaider reached a career-high singles ranking of world number 11 in May 2025. [7][8]
