United States Senator Roger Marshall has been sued in a class action lawsuit by a former patient of his medical clinic, UPI and The New York Times reported on Thursday. The lawsuit accuses the Kansas Republican of charging illegal interest rates on unpaid medical bills. [1][3][4]

UPI reported that lead plaintiff Meischa Zimmerman alleges Marshall charged patients up to 18% annual interest, which exceeds the state limit of 15%. Over his 25 years as an obstetrician-gynecologist, Marshall sued more than 700 patients over medical debt, according to UPI and The New York Times. UPI added that 81 of those patients were arrested after missing court dates. [1][3]

Roger Wayne Marshall has served as the junior United States senator from Kansas since 2021 and previously served as a United States representative from 2017 until 2021. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Marshall is in a Senate campaign against Democratic candidate Adam Hamilton, and Donald Trump has urged Kansas farmers to support Marshall in what the Washington Times called a tight race. [2][9][12]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, national Democrats are spending millions of dollars to support Hamilton's campaign, while Marshall has warned that losing the seat could hand control of the United States Senate to Democrats. [12][13]
