The National Jewish Advocacy Center asked the United States Department of Justice on Monday to investigate the New York City Department of Education. The New York Post reported that the legal rights group called for the federal probe following reports of parents removing their children from public schools because of widespread antisemitism. [1]
The request filed by the group cites evidence documented in New York Post stories since the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks on Israel. According to the New York Post, student enrollment at Jewish schools and yeshivas has grown as families move their children out of the public school system. [1]
The request comes during the second presidential administration of Donald Trump, who took office as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025. In separate coverage from New York City, CNN reported that a woman was charged with hate crimes following an attack on two Jewish men. [2][4]
Concerns over antisemitism in educational settings have also prompted action internationally. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a review in England recommended that schools treat antisemitism as a specific safeguarding risk rather than general bullying, requiring staff training and official reporting of incidents.
