Israel has placed its military on high alert ahead of the anniversary of the 7 October 2023 attack by Hamas, The Journal and France 24 reported on Tuesday. Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Hamas and the population of Gaza would pay a heavy price beyond all proportion if Israeli forces were harmed. [1][4]

The office of Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that the instruction came after receiving intelligence regarding intentions by Hamas to carry out terror operations against Israeli forces in Gaza, according to The Journal. The 7 October 2023 attack by Hamas resulted in 1,221 deaths in Israel. [1]

Israeli forces have killed more than 1,440 people in Gaza since a ceasefire was declared last October, The Journal reported. On 7 October 2023, Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups launched coordinated armed incursions from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. [1][12]

The health system in Israel is also struggling with the psychological impact of the conflict, according to DW. A report found that more than one-third of Israelis have shown symptoms of mental health conditions. [3][5]
