The Irish government is set to unveil Budget 2027 today, introducing broad financial changes to help households with high living costs. The Irish Times and the Irish Independent reported that tax cuts in the new budget will leave middle income earners and couples up to 1,500 euros better off. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the government will present an 8.65 billion euro budget package today. [1][3][6][7][11]
The tax measures raise the entry point for the higher income tax rate band to 46,500 euros and increase tax credits by 125 euros, according to the Irish Independent and The Irish Times. RTÉ reported that Taoiseach Micheál Martin stated over the weekend that the budget must focus on easing pressure on families facing high fuel prices and supermarket bills. [1][3][6][7]
Additional measures target education, housing, and family expenses. The Irish Examiner and BreakingNews.ie reported that college fees will be cut by 1,500 euros for parents who have two children in college. The Irish Independent and The Journal reported that the Help to Buy scheme for first-time buyers is expected to increase to 35,000 euros. [2][5][8]
Addressing other budget provisions, Tánaiste Simon Harris stated that a proposed 100 euro culture card for 16-year-olds is still under consideration, according to The Journal. The Minister for Finance confirmed that while the government aims to assist first-time home buyers, stamp duty exemptions for them will not be introduced, as reported by The Journal and the Irish Examiner.
