The chief of staff of Iran's armed forces, Major-General Ali Abdollahi, has set out five conditions for regional security following overnight United States strikes on Qeshm Island, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday. At the same time, mediator Qatar announced that the United States and Iran are studying proposals to resume negotiations, stating that it remains hopeful of an agreement. [1]
According to the Tasnim news agency cited by Al Jazeera, Abdollahi called for an end to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. His proposed plan also demands the complete lifting of sanctions, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, and the payment of war reparations. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, diplomatic efforts to prevent renewed fighting between Iran, Israel, and the United States have included meetings in Tehran between Iranian officials and delegations from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey. Oman has previously proposed a regional security pact involving the six Gulf states, Iran, and Iraq, while Iranian officials maintained that diplomacy remains possible. [2]
The move toward potential negotiations comes after the United States issued regional security red alerts across 12 Middle Eastern nations, as FTMQ News previously reported. Those alerts warned citizens of potential military escalation, airspace closures, and flight disruptions connected to Iranian and Houthi forces. [3]
