Iran announced on Monday that it is prepared to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the United States accepts its conditions. Euronews, rte.ie, and Khaleej Times all reported that Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the shortened timeline as another indication of Iran's good-faith approach. Euronews and rte.ie both reported that Iran originally submitted a seven-day proposal to Washington through Qatari mediators in September. [1][2][6]

Al Jazeera reported that Tehran passed the proposal through Qatari mediators, stating that accepting its demands would both restore security to the strait and allow negotiations to begin shortly. According to Euronews, Baghaei emphasized that everything depends on Washington's response. [1][3]

The proposal comes amid ongoing military actions in the region. Al Jazeera and Reuters reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy stated two tankers hit mines and caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, rte.ie reported that Iran warned a renewed war could last longer than previous conflict rounds after United States President Donald Trump said he still had targets to take care of. [2][3][4]

Ynetnews reported that Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed Iran as Tehran reported the tanker explosions. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Qatari mediators have been attempting to negotiate the release of more than 6 billion dollars in Iranian assets to reopen the strait. The United States and Israel have been at war with Iran since 28 February 2026. [5][7][8]
