Haitian national charged in fatal shooting of estranged wife at Walmart

Authorities in Pennsylvania have charged Destino Jean-Louis, 23, with murder in the October 21 shooting death of 45-year-old Latosha Ann Cooper outside a Walmart store. The New York Post and Fox News both reported that the victim was Jean-Louis's estranged wife and worked at the store located in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County. The charges were announced by court documents and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office. [1][2][4]

Fox News reported that Jean-Louis allegedly hid near a bush outside the Walmart and waited for Cooper's shift to end before the fatal shooting took place. U.S. Marshals subsequently arrested Jean-Louis in Philadelphia on charges related to overstaying his visa. [4]

Department of Homeland Security sources told Fox News that Jean-Louis entered the United States legally in 2023 through a Biden-era humanitarian parole program. The New York Post and Fox News both reported that his legal status under the relief program was later revoked in 2025. [1][2]
