DSA candidate criticizes NYPD and ICE over Bronx shooting incident

Democratic socialist candidate Darializa Avila-Chevalier criticized immigration authorities and local police following a shooting in the Bronx on Thursday, according to the New York Post and MRC Video. Avila-Chevalier, who is running for the 13th Congressional District, addressed the incident during an interview with streamer Hasan Piker and on MS NOW's program Politics Nation. [1][3]

The New York Post reported that federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents wounded Oscar Belgal, described as an illegal immigrant, when he attempted to flee with his five-year-old son in his car. Avila-Chevalier stated that Belgal's violent criminal record did not matter and accused the New York City Police Department of villainizing him after details of his rap sheet were released. [1]

During her appearance on Politics Nation, Avila-Chevalier criticized the New York City Police Department for failing to arrest the federal agent involved in the shooting, MRC Video reported.
