Police have charged a 19-year-old man with murder following the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Sydney. According to the Guardian and ABC News Australia, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday at Silverwater correctional facility. [1][2]

The incident occurred on 21 September 2026, when police were called to a unit in Norwest. The Guardian and ABC News Australia reported that emergency services responded to reports of a shooting. ABC News Australia specified that police arrived at about 5pm. [1][2]

Officers located the 12-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his face and neck, the Guardian and ABC News Australia both reported. New South Wales Ambulance paramedics treated the child at the scene before he was taken to hospital in critical condition. Nine other people who were present inside the home at the time were not injured. [1][2]

Following the shooting, police initially arrested three 18-year-old men. Both the Guardian and ABC News Australia reported that two of those men were later released while inquiries continued. [1][2]
