Gillian Anderson has responded to public backlash after a video emerged showing her confronting fans outside a theatre over their attendance in the front row of her West End show. CNN and The Guardian reported that the exchange occurred after the actor told a group of theatregoers that repeatedly sitting in the front row was distracting to her performance. [2][6]

According to The Guardian, Anderson was filmed telling the fans, "you can't come 20 times and sit in the front row, it'll drive me mad." The Independent and Deadline reported that the actor subsequently spoke out to clarify and explain her comments following widespread reaction to the viral video clip. [4][6][7]

Anderson gained international fame playing FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the television series The X-Files, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for the role. Her screen credits also include socialite Lily Bart in the film The House of Mirth, DSU Stella Gibson in the crime drama The Fall, sex therapist Jean Milburn in Sex Education, and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Crown, for which she earned a Golden Globe Award. [12]

Born in Chicago, Illinois, in August 1968, Anderson spent her early infancy in the United States before moving internationally due to her father's career in film post-production. The actor has two younger siblings, including a brother who was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 at three years old. [13]
