French President Emmanuel Macron was criticized after attending a Celine Dion concert at the Plenitude arena in Paris on Friday evening. According to the Daily Mail, the 48 year old president and his 73 year old wife Brigitte were seen dancing in a private box. The appearance drew backlash as the nation braced for widespread demonstrations and unrest. [1]

Protests across France have escalated as student marches are joined by Yellow Vest activists. The Daily Mail reported that hundreds of thousands of people are expected to march nationwide, with riot police already using tear gas at multiple high tension locations. Before the demonstrations, France 24 and Le Monde reported that President Macron called for calm and respect ahead of the cost of living protests. [1][2][3]

The unrest coincides with heightened domestic tension surrounding the policing of French school protests, which Sentinel Colorado noted has created public uproar during the final months of the presidency. At the same time, Reuters reported that President Macron warned European Union leaders that a budget agreement must be reached before the end of the year. [4][5]

The French president has also faced foreign policy debates over military support. According to Ukrinform, France is accelerating missile deliveries and providing satellite data support to Ukraine. As FTMQ News reported earlier, opposition leader Marine Le Pen pledged to cut funding to Ukraine, which President Macron warned would jeopardize the security of France. [6][7][13]
