Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally in France, is campaigning on a platform to cut national contributions to the European Union budget and stop funding for Ukraine ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Euronews reported that Le Pen spoke to reporters in Brussels on Wednesday, where she stated that France could only sustain financial assistance to Ukraine for six months due to a perilous domestic situation. EU Today noted that her position comes as the budget crisis in France deepens. [1][3][6]

In response to her proposals, Ukrainian outlets including Ukrainska Pravda, The New Voice of Ukraine, and RBC-Ukraine reported that Le Pen expressed willingness to make a visit to Ukraine. She stated she would discuss French aid directly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy if she receives an invitation. [4][5][7]

French President Emmanuel Macron countered her statements, as reported by Ukrinform. Macron stated that ending aid to Ukraine would jeopardize the security of France. [2]

Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe and is the second largest country on the continent after Russia. Kyiv serves as its capital city, and the nation covers approximately 600,000 square kilometres with a population of around 32 million people. [8]
