French lawmakers held a minute of silence on October 27 for Pengo Bossio Wangi, according to France 24 and Modern Ghana. Wangi died after a racist attack last week, which also left at least five other people wounded, including a 12-year-old girl, France 24 reported. [1][3]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Wangi was 26 years old when he was killed in the shooting. The attack occurred on October 23 in Trappes and La Verrière, two neighbouring communes in the Yvelines department west of Paris. A 39-year-old man drove a car to several locations and opened fire on people. Police arrested the suspected gunman shortly after the attack in nearby Coignières. [4][6][7]
The inputs differ on the exact number of casualties. France 24 and earlier FTMQ News reports stated that five people were injured alongside the single fatality, while Wikipedia listed seven people injured. FTMQ News previously reported that the 12-year-old girl who was wounded in the attack had been shot eight times while walking to a swimming pool. [1][4][6][7]
French President Emmanuel Macron visited Trappes following the incident and condemned the drive-by shooting as a racist terrorist attack, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Following the shooting, an anti-racism coalition, trade unions, and local groups organised a demonstration at the Old Port in Marseille, where hundreds of people gathered to protest against racism.
