French anti-terrorism prosecutors suspended the police custody of the suspect in the Trappes shooting for psychiatric reasons on Sunday, Euronews and Le Monde reported. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office announced that the suspected gunman was moved to a psychiatric unit of the Paris police prefecture. [1][2]
According to Euronews, the transfer is for a period of observation that could last up to 48 hours. The measure will assess whether the condition of the suspect is compatible with further questioning. [1]
The shooting on Friday killed a 26-year-old and left five people injured, including a 12-year-old girl who remains in critical condition, Euronews reported. French President Emmanuel Macron visited Trappes on Friday and described the shooting as a racist terrorist attack. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the suspect opened fire from a car in Trappes and La Verrière before being arrested. [1][4]
