Former United Nations human rights chief Navi Pillay was named the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. Shortly after the announcement, a United Nations whistleblower accused the 85-year-old laureate of ignoring and being complicit in the Uyghur genocide, the Washington Examiner reported. [1]

According to the Washington Examiner, the selection of Pillay quickly sparked a wave of criticism. Opponents raised concerns regarding her focus on Israel, her accusations that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and her alleged selective prosecution of human rights cases. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the Norwegian Nobel Committee received 287 nominations for the 2026 award ahead of the announcement in Oslo. Prior to the decision, discussed candidates included Save Ukraine, Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms, and Yulia Navalnaya. [4]
