Victor Romero, a 62-year-old retired NYPD detective, has been arrested following a fatal road rage shooting on the George Washington Bridge on Tuesday evening. Law enforcement outlets differ on the exact offense, with Gothamist, ABC7 Los Angeles, and Patch reporting a murder charge, while ABC7 New York, Newsday, and the New York Daily News report that the charge was manslaughter. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

According to Fox News, Mr Romero was driving an employer-owned Range Rover SUV at the time of the incident and sped away from the scene after the shot was fired. Fox News reported that he works as a driver and private security guard for QVT Financial, a biotech and energy investment firm. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the victim was 46-year-old Koran Irvine, an off-duty Con Edison worker from Rockland County. [1][11]

The initial investigation indicates that the conflict began over a lane change on the bridge, according to ABC7 New York and The New York Times. Gothamist reported that Mr Romero is being held on one million dollars bail. The New York Daily News reported that the family of Mr Irvine criticized the prosecutor for reducing the charges against the former police officer. [2][3][5]

The George Washington Bridge spans the Hudson River to connect Fort Lee, New Jersey, with the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The 14-lane suspension bridge is the busiest motor vehicle bridge in the world, carrying over 100 million vehicles every year. [8][10]
