Five dead after shooting at elementary school in Bend Oregon

Five people are dead, including a suspected teenage gunman, after a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday, October 15. As UPI, LBC, and The Hill reported, the dead include three children, a teacher, and the suspected shooter. Hampshire Chronicle, V2 Radio, and Radio Royal also reported five people were killed in the incident. [1][2][3][4][5][6]

Authorities stated that the shooting occurred at approximately 1 p.m. PDT, according to UPI. Police identified the suspected shooter as a 16-year-old resident of Bend, a city located about 130 miles east of Eugene in central Oregon. As FTMQ News reported earlier, local officials and the FBI are investigating the shooting. [1][9]

UPI reported that the deceased victims include children aged 5, 8, and 11, alongside a teacher. A 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher suffered injuries in the attack and were taken to St. Charles Bend Medical Center in critical condition. [1]

The incident adds to firearm violence across the country, where mass shootings had already claimed 361 lives and injured 1,553 people in 365 separate incidents through September 30, 2026. [7]
