A delegation of 12 European Parliament members has urged China to curb cheap exports across additional industrial sectors during a visit to Beijing, Euronews reported. The lawmakers warned Chinese officials that the nation's export-driven economic model is unsustainable for Europe and threatens European jobs and industries. [1]

According to Euronews, the European Parliament members called on Beijing to build upon an agreement reached earlier this month that limited Chinese hybrid car exports to the European Union. The visit comes as the European Union trade deficit with China reached a record 36 billion euros. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, European Union negotiators previously traveled to Beijing to address trade imbalances and curb cheap imports. Previous talks aimed to address trade imbalances, with earlier estimates noting the trade gap had reached one billion euros or pounds a day. [4][5]

The latest diplomatic push forms part of wider European Union efforts to step up pressure on Beijing to rebalance international trade and protect European industries from cheap imports. [1]
