A patient group representing diabetes sufferers in the Midlands has expressed serious concern over the temporary closure of a specialist clinic at Regional Hospital Mullingar, RTE reported on October 5. The Health Service Executive wrote to patients with type 1 diabetes at the end of September to inform them that the adult day diabetes centre was being temporarily suspended due to staffing shortages. Norman Dolan, a type 1 diabetic patient from Delvin in County Westmeath, was among those who campaigned for the specialist clinic for many years, RTE reported. Over 20 years ago, former Health Minister Mary O'Rourke was involved in discussions regarding the service. [1]
