Democrats have made significant gains in the United States midterm elections following widespread opposition to the ongoing war with Iran. France 24 reported that analysts described the results as a blue wave. Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the American public voted against war and the rising cost of living. [1][4][5][8]

Internal political criticism has also emerged within the Republican Party. The Daily Express reported that outgoing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized President Donald Trump over the conflict following poor election results for their party. [6]

Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high amid the ongoing conflict. According to the New York Post, Iranian Security Chief Mohsen Rezaei rejected the United States response to Iran's latest peace proposal. Rezaei demanded that the United States address seven conditions previously rejected by President Trump, stating that the Strait of Hormuz will only reopen once those terms are met. [2][3]

Since 28 February 2026, the United States and Israel have been engaged in a military conflict with Iran. Air strikes killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other officials, prompting Iran to block shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and triggering a global fuel crisis. [9]
