Cost is preventing 44 per cent of young adults in Ireland from accessing mental health support, according to a survey by Mental Health Ireland. The Journal reported that the research was published following a survey conducted in September this year. The charity consulted 1,000 people aged 18 and over across Ireland regarding their attitudes and barriers to supporting mental health. [1]
The research showed that more than four in 10 young adults aged 25 to 34 specifically cited financial cost as a barrier to supporting their personal mental health. The survey examined stressors, support access, demographic differences, and obstacles to discussing mental health. The Journal reported that other identified barriers included not prioritising mental health, a lack of time, and uncertainty about how to access support. [1]
Mental Health Ireland is the longest established mental health charity in the country. It focuses on national awareness campaigns, education programmes, and community initiatives. [1]
