German carmaker Audi plans to build its first dedicated assembly plant in the United States in the state of Georgia. United States President Donald Trump announced the plans on Saturday, 24 October 2026, during an election campaign rally in Perry, Georgia. The announcement was reported by Euronews, DW, and the South China Morning Post. [1][4][5]

Outlets gave slightly different investment figures for the project. Euronews, DW, and CNBC reported that Audi will invest 4 billion US dollars, which DW noted is equal to 3.77 billion euros. The South China Morning Post reported the figure as 4.2 billion US dollars, matching earlier reporting by FTMQ News. [1][4][5][6][10]

According to DW and the South China Morning Post, Donald Trump stated that the factory will produce 200,000 SUVs each year. DW reported that Audi confirmed its plans for the Georgia factory, but the company noted that vehicle production will only begin early next decade. Donald Trump credited his tariff policies for encouraging the company to move production to the United States, Euronews and DW reported. [1][4][5]

The New York Times reported that Audi is a division of Volkswagen and currently imports all of its cars into the United States from Europe or Mexico. The outlet added that the carmaker has been hit hard by United States tariffs. [7]

Euronews reported that Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner appeared alongside Donald Trump at the event. The timing of the announcement comes shortly before the US midterm elections on 3 November. [1]
