A humanitarian aid mission is set to enter the southern Ukrainian town of Oleshky, France 24, NBC News, and The Guardian reported. A Ukrainian official said military units are clearing away landmines to enable a humanitarian corridor. France 24 and NBC News both report that a localized ceasefire between Ukrainian and Russian forces has held for a third day, while standard combat continues across the rest of the country. [1][4][5]

The pause in fighting was brokered by United States First Lady Melania Trump, according to France 24, NBC News, and FTMQ News. Ukraine's human rights commissioner stated that the ceasefire in Oleshky had lasted for 54 hours and that humanitarian aid is due to enter on Friday, Українська правда reported. Moscow and Kyiv have observed the truce in the city since Tuesday. [1][5][6][9][10]

International allies have also announced financial assistance packages for Ukraine. The Kyiv Post reported that the Netherlands pledged 1.2 billion euros in non-military aid to Ukraine through 2027 to 2029. Additionally, the United Kingdom pledged a record 10 billion pounds, or approximately 13.3 billion dollars, including air defense assistance. [2][3][7]

Oleshky, previously known as Tsiurupynsk from 1928 to 2016, is a city in Kherson Oblast located on the left bank of the Dnieper River. Russian forces have occupied the city since February 2022, as FTMQ News reported earlier. As evacuations begin, European news outlets have raised concerns that displaced civilians could be transported through Russian territory or occupied Crimea. [8][9]
