A 90-year-old astrophysicist professor was violently shoved off a New York City subway train by an unknown stranger, the New York Post reported. Dr. C.G. Wang was left with broken bones and required a hip replacement following the attack. [1]

According to the New York Post, the incident occurred after Wang politely asked another passenger to move so he could exit at the Lexington Avenue and East 53rd Street station. The suspect stepped aside, but as the train doors opened, he pushed Wang forcefully out of the southbound F-train. [1]

Wang told ABC 7 that he landed on his hip first and then his shoulder. The assault left the frail, visually impaired professor in the hospital, where he was still recovering weeks after the attack occurred. [1]

Astrophysics applies the methods and principles of physics and chemistry to study astronomical objects and the universe. The scientific discipline emerged in the late 19th century following major advances in spectroscopy. [2][3]
