Woman and girl found dead in submerged car in Queensland dam

A 36-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were found dead inside a vehicle submerged in a dam on a rural Queensland property, the Daily Mail reported. Emergency services were called to Springvale Road in Tinana South, south of Maryborough, shortly before 5:30 pm on Thursday. The call followed reports that a blue Subaru Tribeca had driven into the water. [1]

Initial police inquiries indicate that the vehicle left the road before entering the water, according to the Daily Mail. Both occupants were found dead inside the car despite attempts by a local farmer to save them. The farmer, Joel Hinchliffe, said he was working in his shed when he noticed a group of cows gathering near the road. [1]

Queensland became a self-governing British colony in December 1859 after separating from New South Wales, before joining as one of the six founding states of Australia upon federation in 1901. [4]
