The White House asked United States Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The Guardian, the Financial Times, and The New York Times reported that the announcement ends her diplomatic career. The move followed reports that President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio grew furious over allegations that she sought payments in exchange for access to administration officials. [1][9][10]

According to UPI, President Donald Trump previously stated on Monday that he was looking at firing Guilfoyle after reports emerged that she asked Republican donor Eric Deters to wire $100,000 to cover her credit card bill. She allegedly promised Deters that she would be his ride or die in Trump world in exchange for paying her American Express bill. CNN, CNBC, Fox News, and the BBC also reported earlier that Trump was considering removing her from her post. [2][3][4][5][6][8]

Guilfoyle is a former television personality and former prosecutor who served as an advisor and fundraising lead for the 2020 Trump campaign. CNBC noted that she was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr. As FTMQ News reported earlier, she has served as the United States ambassador to Greece since 2025 and was already facing potential investigations over alleged influence peddling and luxury travel funding. [6][11][13]

The White House decision concludes weeks of reports surrounding her conduct. The request for her resignation marks the end of her tenure representing the United States in Athens amid an ongoing misconduct probe. [1][11]
