United States President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are considering firing Kimberly Guilfoyle, the US ambassador to Greece, following growing reports of improper conduct. The Guardian, AP News, and inkl all reported that officials are reviewing her position, with a senior official telling The Guardian that leadership will likely decide on action after the Monday federal holiday. [1][2][8]

The potential removal follows reports concerning her conduct before and during her posting in Athens. According to The Wall Street Journal and the Daily Mail, leaked audio from a Davos forum in January allegedly recorded Guilfoyle boasting about Greek shipping tycoon Nikolas Tsakos and construction executive Alexandros Exarchou paying for her luxury travel, private jet flights, and hotel stays in exchange for supporting their business interests. [1][3][5]

Guilfoyle has served as the United States ambassador to Greece since 2025. She previously worked as an advisor and fundraising lead for Donald Trump during his 2020 presidential campaign. [13]

A decision on Guilfoyle's ambassadorship is expected later in the week, as top US officials evaluate the reports of misconduct. [1]
