Unannounced overnight restrictions on SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet network have disrupted Ukrainian battlefield operations, according to BBC News and France 24. Serhiy Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said troops received no advance warning about the speed limits set at 100mph or 160km/h. [1][2][4]

A source within the Ukrainian defence ministry subsequently confirmed the operational disruptions to BBC News. The Starlink satellite constellation, operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX company, provides critical connectivity allowing Ukrainian forces to guide military drones toward Russian targets and defend air space, BBC News reported. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the speed caps severed internet connectivity whenever Starlink terminals traveled faster than 160 kilometres per hour. SpaceX has not issued any public comment regarding the newly imposed restrictions, BBC News reported. [1][18]

The network throttling occurred alongside targeted overnight Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. BBC News and France 24 reported that the attacks left at least 600,000 people across the country without electricity. [1][4][8]
