Two British murder convictions linked to television show Dexter

Two British killers who styled themselves after the fictional television serial killer Dexter Morgan have been convicted of murder within 70 days of each other, the Daily Mail reported. A criminologist warned that the television show provides a scripted guide for killers and offers justification for violent acts. Seven murders have been linked to the program since 2009, according to the Daily Mail. [1]

In the most recent case, 20-year-old forensics student Benjamin Day admitted to murdering 24-year-old Maria Saceanu after luring her to a location, the Daily Mail reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Day was a 19-year-old forensic science student at the time of the killing and admitted to the murder at Wolverhampton Crown Court in the West Midlands after setting up a plastic-lined kill room in an Airbnb inspired by the television show. The American crime drama Dexter originated as an adaptation of a novel series by Jeff Lindsay, according to Wikipedia. The franchise centers on Dexter Morgan, a forensic bloodstain pattern analyst for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department who secretly operates as a vigilante serial killer targeting murderers who escaped justice.
