Police in northern California arrested a 17-year-old boy on Monday in connection with a fatal shooting at a Halloween store late last week, UPI and the New York Post reported. The suspect was taken into custody at his home in neighboring Suisun City on Monday afternoon, according to UPI. The New York Post reported that the arrest was made by the Fairfield Police Department after a school resource officer identified the teenager in surveillance video footage. [1][2]
The teenager has been charged with murder and attempted murder, with additional charges possibly following, UPI reported. Authorities are withholding his identity from the public because he is a minor, according to UPI. The shooting left 31-year-old Constance Hages, a pregnant woman, dead, and injured six other people, UPI and the New York Post reported. [1][2]
The attack occurred at a Spirit Halloween store located in the Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Three of the six wounded victims were transported to the hospital in critical condition at the time of the incident. [10]
Spirit Halloween operates seasonal temporary locations and is the largest retailer of Halloween products in the United States, according to Wikipedia. The company, which is owned by Spencer's Gifts, typically opens short-term stores in vacant commercial spaces between mid-July and mid-November, Grokipedia notes. [8][9]
