Two of the largest teachers unions in the United States spent over 930 million dollars on political activity, lobbying, and advocacy over the last decade, Fox News reported. The findings come from a report published by the North American Values Institute, a nonprofit education watchdog group that tracks ideological activism. [1]
According to the investigation by the watchdog group, the National Education Association spent at least 547 million dollars on political activity and advocacy between fiscal years 2016 and 2025. Fox News reported that this figure includes 458.9 million dollars that the union officially filed as political expenses. [1]
The report also analyzed spending by the American Federation of Teachers, which together with the National Education Association poured hundreds of millions of dollars into political activism and political groups, according to Fox News. [1]
Teachers unions have actively resisted various state and federal policy initiatives. As FTMQ News reported earlier, unions fiercely opposed New York Governor Kathy Hochul when she opted the state into a federal tax credit scholarship program created under President Donald Trump. [1][4]
