Voters in Arizona are criticizing the federal administration over reductions to food assistance with less than a week remaining before the United States midterm elections, France 24 and Modern Ghana both report. The cuts to food stamps have severely affected low income residents in the state. France 24 reported that the cost of living has become a central issue for voters in the final days of the election campaign. [1][2]

The voter backlash follows widespread reductions to national assistance programs. As FTMQ News reported earlier, participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program dropped by 13 percent over the past year. Nationwide enrollment fell from 41.6 million people in July 2025 to 36.5 million in June 2026 after the Trump administration introduced new restrictions under the One Big Beautiful Act. [5]

The political tension comes as economic pressure grows nationwide ahead of the midterm polls. President Donald Trump has been visiting strong Republican districts to gather support for candidates, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Voters in several states have listed inflation, energy prices, and foreign policy among their primary concerns. [6]

Arizona features an arid climate and an economy that expanded to reach a real gross domestic product of 433.8 billion dollars in 2024. The major political parties competing in the midterm elections remain the Democratic Party, which was founded in 1828, and the Republican Party. [3][4]
