A 30-year-old Sudanese man was arrested in Ramsgate, Kent, on Tuesday after allegedly attempting to steal a shellfish trawler to travel to France. The Daily Mail reported that the man boarded the vessel at Royal Harbour in the early hours of the morning while the crew members were asleep in their bunks. [1]
According to a trawlerman on board, the man started the engine and revved it so hard that the mooring ropes snapped. The crew member stated that the intruder insisted on being taken to France to collect his family. Police quickly attended the scene and arrested the man, whose immigration status remains unclear. [1]
Sudan has been engulfed in a civil war since April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, commanded by General Hemedti. [2]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, migrants have been crossing the English Channel to enter the United Kingdom since 2018. Small boat crossings from the French coast toward Britain have remained a central political issue in the region. [5]
