A record-breaking pack of about 60,000 racers participated in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, according to the New York Post. Spectators gathered along the course to cheer on the runners, including a dense crowd situated on First Avenue in Manhattan. [1]

The New York Post reported that fans clogged the sidewalks along the Upper East Side, located right after the Queensboro Bridge. The bridge at Mile 15 is typically the loneliest stretch of the course due to its quiet mile-long span. [1]

Spectators travelled from across the country to support individual runners. The New York Post said Alexa Little of Charlotte, North Carolina, was among a group dressed in pink outfits to cheer for a participant who trained through chemotherapy to run in the race. [1]

The annual event courses through all five boroughs of New York City and is one of the world's largest marathons. It is recognized alongside the Boston Marathon and the Chicago Marathon as one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. [3]
