At least 13 people were killed on Thursday when a Russian drone struck a railway station platform in the central-eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro, Euronews, rte.ie, and the New York Times reported. Ukrainian authorities confirmed the strike hit a platform where a train was standing. [1][2][3][7][8][9][10][11]

Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha said on Telegram that at least five other people were wounded in the attack, Euronews and rte.ie reported. According to rte.ie, the state Ukrainian Railways operator said the drone hit a platform where a train bound for Zaporizhzhia was parked. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the strike horrific, Euronews reported. [1][2][9]

Russia and Ukraine have increased drone and missile strikes in recent months, Euronews reported. The latest strike occurred as Moscow and Kyiv prepare to restart United States-mediated peace talks next month, according to Euronews. The New York Times reported that the attack happened despite a rare local cease-fire near the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky. [1][3]

The strike follows recent attacks on Ukrainian cities. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed one person and injured 15 others earlier in the week. Russian strikes have repeatedly hit civilian transport networks and energy infrastructure during the conflict. [12][14][15]
